Promotion rules connected to inbound orders.
A rules-driven engine for on-invoice and off-invoice schemes across thousands of outlets, connected to SAP and point of sale.
Client: A multi-region FMCG network

The context.
The business ran schemes that varied by region, product, quantity, route and customer segment. Manual configuration and rules hard-coded in the ERP made promotion changes slow and inconsistent across its channel network.
Promotion rules hard-coded in the ERP.
There was no central place to configure promotion rules. Errors and inconsistencies were common, scheme performance and payouts were hard to see, sales and finance spent hours on manual work, and every change touched POS, SAP and supply-chain systems.
- Configure complex promotion rules centrally, without code
- Apply the rules to each inbound order as it arrives
- Support on-invoice and off-invoice incentives
- Calculate incentives for sales and delivery teams automatically
- Connect cleanly with SAP, POS and supply-chain systems
- Keep up with high daily transaction volumes
Rules, decoupled from the ERP.
Schemes are configured outside SAP by the business teams who own them. Each inbound order is checked against the active schemes for its region, products, basket and quantities. The engine calculates the incentive and sends the result back to SAP and point of sale.
The system in three steps.
Products, quantities and region.
Region, product and quantity rules, configured.
Passed to the connected SAP and POS systems.
Business rules applied to each incoming order.
Inside the workflow.

Evaluate inbound orders
Each incoming order is checked against the configured schemes and the applicable incentive is calculated. The SAP and POS integrations carry the result into the order workflow.
What the platform does.
-
Scheme builder
Business users set region, product and quantity rules for on-invoice and off-invoice schemes.
-
Order evaluation
Each inbound order is checked against the active schemes as it arrives.
-
Incentives
Payouts for sales and delivery teams are calculated automatically.
-
SAP and POS
Results flow back to SAP and the point-of-sale systems.
What changed.
The engine handles more than 10,000 transactions a day across over 3,000 stores, wholesalers and distributors. Figures are from the client's engagement write-up.
- transactions a day
- 10,000+
- stores, wholesalers and distributors
- 3,000+
Decisions behind the work.
Promotion logic sits outside the ERP core, so a new scheme does not need an SAP change.
Business, sales-operations and finance teams shaped the rules.
On-invoice and off-invoice schemes share one configuration.
